Social Media News
Teen Accounts – Now whenever someone under the age of 18 signs up to Instagram, they will automatically be given a teen account which will give built-in protection and peace of mind for parents. Teen accounts will place limits on what users can see, who can message & interact with them, & enable parents to exercise more control.
Story comments – Similar to a traditional post, you can share a public comment on a story that will stay live as long as the story does and browse other people's comments too.
New creative options – Instagram has introduced new text and sticker options including a range of new fonts for your Reels and Stories, stickers for photos, text animation, and more so we can get more creative with our content to make it more visually appealing.
TikTok
New DM stickers - TikTok is adding stickers in its DMs, including video stickers comprising of TikTok clips, and user-created sticker sets that can be shared by others in the app.
Video re-editing - TikTok is testing allowing users to delete & re-edit a video after it has been posted, which could mean easier testing for engagement, or making updates more aligned with current trends.
Group chats - TikTok is adding group chats (for up to 32 people) allowing users to share TikToks with friends and family members without having to open a separate messaging app.
Threads
20 images / videos – Threads is following Instagram’s lead, with users now able to add up to 20 photos or videos to a carousel in a single Threads update.
YouTube
Add yours sticker - YouTube is rolling out an “Add Yours” sticker that encourages participatory content, by prompting viewers to create their own takes on Shorts clips.
Trending Audios
Let’s talk trending audios! A trending audio teamed with a great video and concept can elevate a reel from ok to amazing! Let’s look at what audios have been trending this month:
I couldn’t help but wonder - This trend features a compilation of iconic Carrie Bradshaw clips from Sex and the City, where she repeatedly says phrases like, "I started to wonder," and "I had to wonder," capturing an overthinking spiral. It resonates with anyone whose found ourselves overanalyzing situations, making the audio very relatable to any audience. Creators are using it to film themselves pondering a question or topic, tying it back to their business, niche, or audience. We love @wonderlandsocials version here who cleverly asks why business owners aren't leveraging Facebook Groups to boost their businesses - enticing viewers to want to learn more.
Funky Town – Once you hear this audio, you’ll be singing it in your head all day! This trend involves featuring two people performing a dance where they are pretending to slap each other to the beat of the music (all in good fun!) with text showing conflicting opinions on a topic. For example, @thisfitmum has her gym friend doing the dance with her with text saying “Gen Z Crocs” and then “Millenial Converse” finishing with “Choose your gym shoe, vote in the comments!”. A clever way to spark engagement and conversation!

90's Nostalgia
90’s Nostalgia
Since the iconic '90s indie band Oasis announced their comeback tour last month, the excitement levels have been high! Our social feeds have been flooded with all things Oasis, from hilarious reels and memes to their timeless tracks. Unsurprisingly, this has sparked a resurgence of '90s-themed trends, with fashion and music from the era making a major comeback. Naturally, this wave has brought a flood of '90s-inspired memes and content to our social feeds, evoking nostalgia for millennials while introducing fresh trends to Gen Z. We love this reel from @bettyglue showcasing 90’s themed fashion, as well as @retr0avocado (self confessed queen of '90s nostalgia), who shares hilarious throwback memes from the era that we can't get enough of!
Baby Moo Deng
The latest internet sensation is none other than a baby hippo, and the world can’t get enough of her! Meet Little Moo Deng, born in July at Thailand's Khao Kheow Open Zoo. Since her arrival, she's captured hearts everywhere, quickly becoming a viral sensation and a meme icon. The zoo’s updates and videos of her on Facebook, X, and YouTube have drawn massive attention — and who can blame them? She’s so darn cute! Fast forward to today, and Moo Deng has been featured in Time Magazine, with the headline, “She is an icon. She is a legend. She is the moment.” Sephora has even featured make-up inspired by her peachy cheek tones (adding to cart immediately!). Not to mention, she’s brought tens of thousands of visitors to the zoo reportedly earning them over $509,000 in the first couple of weeks of September alone. It just goes to show the undeniable power of cuteness on the internet!
