Following Hashtags - Instagram has announced that the option to follow hashtags will be removed. This means you’ll no longer be able to follow hashtag topics, and any previously followed hashtags will no longer appear in your feed. This move addresses spam infiltrating trending hashtags and aims to improve user experience by eliminating annoyance and enhancing algorithm-driven content discovery. Hashtags will still appear in explore and search, but the focus is shifting to Instagram’s algorithm, which analyzes interests and behaviours to suggest relevant posts. While hashtags are less influential for reach, using a few niche, relevant ones remains beneficial.
Notify Sticker – Instagram are introducing a new “notify” sticker which allows your followers to be notified when you post new content. Love this one as a clearer path to persuading followers to turn on notifications for your account!

Highlights Tab – Instagram is in the process of informing users that their Story highlights will be moving into a dedicated tab (apparently, they’ll also show in your main grid too). It’s not clear how this will look so eyes peeled for any changes!
Sponsored Posts - Despite the rumours, Adam Mosseri confirmed in a video that they DO NOT reduce the reach of content marked as sponsored. Good news for creators and influencers and a long-standing myth that can now be put to bed!

Carousel Update - Infamous leaker Alessandro Paluzzi has noted that Instagram are working on the ability to add to a carousel post AFTER it has been posted. Following the addition of the ability to delete carousel slides, this update brings even more flexibility to posts after publishing!

TikTok
Symphony Creative Studio - TikTok has expanded access to its Symphony Creative Studio, making it available to all advertisers. This innovative tool features an AI-powered video generation system capable of producing high-quality videos in just minutes with minimal user effort.

Q5 Insights & Data - TikTok launched a “Q5” Playbook which provides key stats, data and tips for marketing post-Christmas (the period dubbed “Q5” by many marketers!). An interesting read - check out our recent post for a bitesized overview!

Video Tips – LinkedIn has shared tips on maximizing its new full-screen, vertical video feed - a feature inspired by the TikTok trend of attention-grabbing short-form clips. To summarize, it states that if you only remember three things, they should be:
- Keep it short
- Repurpose from other platforms
- Provide context in the caption
Meta
Views Metric – Facebook is aligning with Instagram by adopting "views" as its primary metric, replacing varied metrics like "plays," "impressions," and "accounts reached" for both video and image content.
