Social Media Trends on Instagram
Mutuals Tab – Instagram is testing out having a new “mutuals” tab on a profile where users can view shared followers.
Notes visible on profile – Instagram are rolling out the ability to be able to view a person’s “note” on their profile image. Up until now, these have only been visible from your DM inbox. This is a nice little update as it can help encourage DMs (which is where relationship building and sales are more likely to happen!).
Inspiration feed – Instagram are testing a new “inspiration” feed for reels. As you will see from the screenshot below, you will be able to filter your reels between those you follow, those nearby and “inspiration”. You should still focus on your Instagram layout.
Update to reels algorithm – Last but certainly not least, Instagram’s CEO Adam Mosseri announced that they are updating the reels algorithm to give more reach to the “little guy” (his words not ours!). In an update on his page, he admitted that Instagram has historically given too much reach to big creators and neglecting smaller accounts. Now, ALL reels are going to go to a test group of non-followers meaning reels from smaller creators will be given more of a chance at reaching new people. A welcome update we say! We look forward to seeing if this makes a difference to people’s reach and views. You can watch Adam’s video in full here.
Social Media Trends on YouTube
Video skip - YT is testing a button that allows you to skip to a part in a video that AI thinks you'll like. Right now, it's just a trial, and only a few YouTube Premium users in the U.S. get to try it out.
Social Media Trends on TikTok
TikTok Notes - Last month we reported that a new photo app from TikTok was potentially in the works. It is now official! TikTok Notes has landed! Currently testing in Australia & Canada, TT said:
“We're in the early stages of experimenting with a dedicated space for photo and text content with TikTok Notes,”
While the limited testing means, we know little about what the app looks like, they have released some screenshots. The homepage appears to be divided into a “For you” tab and a “Following” tab. It also seems users will be able to link their TikTok accounts to the new app.
The release of TikTok notes marks a shift from the norm as Instagram are usually the ones thought to be “copying” TikTok. It seems TikTok are playing Insta at their own game so we look forward to seeing how this one plays out! At this stage it is too early to say if the release of this new app will disrupt the social media landscape or if it will be a passing trend. One thing’s for sure, TikTok know a thing or two about making an impact and enticing users to their apps! Watch this space...
Video links – TikTok are also apparently working on testing a way for posters to attach links to organic videos – this would be handy for encouraging sales and driving traffic to your website / booking site!

Trending Audios
Let’s talk trending audios! A trending audio teamed with an original concept can make or break a reel! So, let’s talk about what audios have been trending recently. Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso song is dominating our reels feed just now, and we are not mad about it (it’s giving fun, summer vibes and we are here for it!). Fresh from supporting T-Swift in concert, Sabrina bang on trend right now so now is a good time to jump on any of her trending audios. Talking of the woman of the moment, Taylor Swift dropped her eagerly anticipated album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April, meaning that, of course, many of the songs are now trending on socials! Our favorites are Guilty as Sin , So Long London & Florida!!!.
Here are some of our other top trending audios this month (tap on the image to take you to the audio):

What’s Trending right now on Social Media?
Elvis Burning Love
Our favorite trend of the moment is the Elvis Burning Love audio & reel concept. The trend involves editing your video to make it look like you are jumping into your next trip / vacation / event and then running back to grab your friends / family / colleagues. Take a look at this cute girls trip example from @gemmaalster! We also love @claudiaravioli's take on it too - hilarious!
Coming up
Coming up in May, we have two major pop culture events that are bound to dominate our social feeds:
🎭 The MET Gala on May 6th
📺 Bridgerton Season 3 premiering on May 16th
Anticipate plenty of memes, gifs, and trends surrounding these events in the weeks ahead (and jump on them early to ride the wave!).
